In letzter Zeit sind in meinem Blog drei Arten von Eintrag etwas zu kurz gekommen: Zum einen die Beiträge, die ihren Schwerpunkt auf Text und nicht auf Bildern haben. Zum anderen the contributions of the category Simon - In the U.S. alone . And third, of course, the articles on food . The current review should fit into all three categories.

The department cookies, candy bars and snacks find me in the supermarket in virtually every purchase. So far I have a shelf but it can always be left, because its offer me, sorry, more of the area Pet Food as a meal has to be thinking in between.
date. Yesterday I struggled through now to be standing in front of said shelf and to leave again before not one of the had found there to-find packages the way into my shopping basket. In a death-defying self-experiment, I finally tasted the contents thereof, and will now also take testimony for posterity. What I'm talking about? Course of Beef Jerky .

Beef Jerky is one of the few products that I stay here before I had never heard (though it, I found out later, few probably can buy in Germany). In the United States, it seems, to me, the wide range of manufacturers and can include variations to enjoy some popularity. This is actually something very mundane: cut into strips, marinated, dried beef. Just right for a snack in between, right?

Packaging
... I see here is really only one reason:

Included in the U.S. snacks rather than 3% Fat - no, they are 97% Fat Free ! The same goes for milk, cheese, sausage and the like. And if a product contains as much fat that even the words 75% Fat Free somehow no longer sounds so good, it is just being advocated with 0g Trans Fat (such as, for example, the very end of the article mentioned food). You have to be creative in advertising easy. But I digress, back to Jerky: The fact that the meat actually contains only three per cent fat is because the remaining fat to be removed. Fat becomes rancid quickly, and the original reason for the Jerky production lies in the preservation of meat.

The contents of the package
looks ... like this: (!
Do Not Microwave
)
The blue and white packet containing iron filings to the left with the oxygen in the packaging to react and so the actual content to keep fresh longer. The rest of the right of it: Well, just cut into strips, marinated, dried beef.
is said to have originated the term Jerky way in Quechua word charqui , also referred to the dried meats.

The taste of the contents of the package
Well, cut into strips, marinated, dried ... seriously: The taste (of course only the meat, not the blue and white packet) is definitely getting used to the meat taste sweet, very hot (which could of course be because I peppered the variant have selected) and is pretty tough. Black Forest ham, sprinkled with sugar and pepper and let one days lying around, should cater for a similar dining experience

I'm still not quite fit, though I Jerky like it or not -. The fact that I bag was emptied during the writing should, however, suggest that it can not be that bad. Or that my taste is now the local customs result has adapted.

Anyway, my palate needs after so many new things until something decent. Fortunately, in my closet still a pack of chocolate marshmallow biscuits ...
