Killin geplant – doch so weit sollten wir nicht sofort kommen. Als wir nämlich das Städtchen
Doune durchquerten, wies dort ein zwar unscheinbares, jedoch für meinen Mitfahrer Stefan nicht zu übersehendes Schild auf eine Burg hin. Wir entschlossen uns, dem Hinweis zu folgen. The next time we were actually in
Killin support. Here was a natural attraction our goal - right in the village: The Falls of
Dochart . A narrow stone bridge leads the main road just above the cascades of the river

Harry Potter und der Gefangene von Askaban und noch zahlreiche weitere wurden vor seiner grandiosen Kulisse verfilmt. Ich dagegen blieb bei Standbildern:

Fort William aus sollte man dann laut meinem Reiseführer den besten Blick auf Großbritanniens höchsten Berg,
Ben Nevis , haben. Einige hundert Meter folgten wir am Ortsrand dem Pfad zum Gipfel …

Doch bis auf Weiteres hielt sich der Niederschlag in Grenzen und wir konnten uns gefahrlos dem wohl bekanntesten Ziel auf unserer Route nähern:
Loch Ness .
Die Heimat von
Nessie ist Schottlands zweitgrößter Süßwassersee. Das
Loch erstreckt sich, charakteristisch langezogen, etwa 40 Kilometer in südwest-nordöstlicher Richtung bis kurz vor
Inverness .
Auf Empfehlung einer freundlichen Dame in einer
Tourist Information wählten wir nicht, wie ursprünglich geplant, die Hauptroute am nordwestlichen Ufer along, but instead a smaller road on the southeast shore. We were rewarded with nice pictures. The weather played with again, the sky offered once again a diverse mix of sun and clouds, the photos was more likely to be as detrimental:

Nessie could be the way during our stay, not able to look.
Inverness, the unofficial capital of the Highlands was, finally, the final scheduled day's destination. About the city but I can not say much, in advance, it was difficult to make any interest therein identified, and it was for us just a drive-through station, although the northernmost of all our Scotland tour.

It was an impressive and dignified end to our trip to the Scottish Highlands. Before us was now only the nightly drive back to Edinburgh, which meant, however, again in about the same mileage as the distance traveled already. I save at this point discussion of decreasing temperatures and increased snowfall on the Scottish passports, about constant eye on the thermometer and light concerns about the suitability of the summer tires.
